CAS Christmas July Challenge - Poinsettia

Hello there.  It’s the third of another month, which means the new challenge at CAS Christmas starts today!  This month the theme is Poinsettia.

My poinsettia comes from never before used (NBUS) stamp set The Magic of Christmas by Simon Says Stamp.  I have never used such bright bold pink colours, and although it does not beat my favourite blue colour, I quite like it! 😆

The poinsettia was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a stitched Xpress It cardstock panel and coloured with Copic markers (RV19,RV09,RV06,RV04,RV02).  Masked it then stamped the pine branch from the same set with Memento London Fog ink.

The sentiment from Catherine Pooler Here We Come A-Carolling was stamped in black.  A white gel pen was then used to trace around the sentiment where it overlaps with the poinsettia so it shows better.  No surprise, my tracing was not perfect 😂, so the sentiment was re-stamped in black to cover/minimize that.  Clear shimmer on the petals and Memory Box clear jewels for the center finished off the card.

Our guest this month is Sandra (Sandma’s Handmade Cards).  She and the designers have made beautiful cards to help inspire you to join us and you can view them HERE.  The challenge is open till July 24th PST.  Thank you for dropping by.

  1. Your poinsettia is so pretty in the corner in the multiple shades of purples Trina - love the whisper of the pine stamping behind it and your lovely sentiment in black - great idea to trace around the edge of the M with your white gel pen to define it!

  4. What a pretty poinsettia with different shades of pink, Trina! The pine branch in light gray behind the flower adds dimension/depth to the corner image. You're so clever to trace around the sentiment to define it. It was worth double the time. :-) Thanks for sharing the technique!

  5. So pretty Trina, your choice of colour is perfect and those shades of purple are gorgeous. I love the wisp of pine just behind and you were so brave with the white gel pen, it looks perfect making the sentiment pop. I always make a mess of outlining with pens :(

  8. Wonderful colouring, Trina! Even if pink isn't your favourite cup of tea this poinsettia is a delight to see! Love the touch of clear gems and the grey branches, so delicate. Your idea of tracing in white around the sentiment where it overlap the poinsettia is very professional and effective. If you hadn’t pointed out the imperfection no one would have seen it! :D We are our most fussy critics... :)

Hard to believe that there's less than half a year to go now until poinsettia season returns. Blink twice, no doubt, and we'll be singing carols and munching on gingerbread cookies again in now time!
