Whimsy Stamps - Catch the Wave

Hello there.  It’s Canada Day today, so happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians!  It’s also mini release day at Whimsy Stamps (WS) and the summer theme continues.  I am featuring the new Catch the Wave stamp set.  The octopus image in this set made me think of graffiti art, so that was what inspired this.

The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on alcohol marker friendly cardstock and coloured in with Copic Sketch markers.

Copic markers used:
aquas - BG10/11/34/49
pinks - RV00/02/55
yellows - Y11/13/15/19

Used the Wavy Nested Frames die next to die cut a DIY stencil from masking paper.  Positioned and adhered it around the image, then ink blended Lost Shadow and Black Soot distress inks (DI) over a Brick Pattern stencil.  Previously, I would mask the image before stencilling the bricks, but this time I skipped that step, which not only simplified things, but I think gave a cool transparent realistic look.  Removed the stencils and doodled dots and highlights with permanent black and white gel pens to finish.

I thought a couple of colours from the mood board at Double D challenge would work for this image, so I created a second colour version.

Followed the same steps as above and used Copic markers BV000/02/13/17 for purples.

Here’s the collage of inspirations for this mini release.

Wow Trina, this is a perfect graffiti art on a card (well, on two cards!) You have had a fabulous idea with this stamp and the bricks that can be glimpsed through the drawing really make the idea of the graffiti art! The shadow on the wall you made with the stencil looks very cool. Both the versions are fabulous, can't choose a favourite!
