In Solidarity with Ukraine

Hello everyone.  I haven’t been feeling well… still trying to get over that last hurtle.  But I was determined to get in some crafting therapy and complete the card I started before I got sick to show support for Ukraine in this horrific, unjust war.  I love the heart hand dies included in the August 2021 My Monthly Hero kit from Hero Arts and couldn’t think of a better time to finally put them to use.  Here’s my card.

The hands were die cut from a scrap of XPress It cardstock.  Light shading was added with a cool gray Copic marker.  On another scrap, coloured it with blue and yellow Copic markers to represent Ukraine’s flag, then adhered behind the heart hand opening.  Applied clear shimmer to it for a bit of sparkle, then added highlights with a white gel pen.

The background is Bristol paper embossed with the Sunburst embossing folder from Sunny Studio Stamps.  Hugs was die cut a few times from white scraps using Reverse Confetti (RC) Warm Hugs die.  The top layer was inked with Prize Ribbon distress ink using a finger brush, then heat embossed with clear glitter embossing powder for even more sparkle.  The sentiment from new/unused RC Butterfly Blossoms was heat embossed also with clear glitter embossing powder in blue, then fussy cut out.  Assembled the card onto a white card base to finish.

I know of only one Ukrainian from this crafting community (I’m sure there are many out there) and her name is Yana (Yana Smakula).  Thanks to Yana I was a Small Die of the Month club kit influencer for Spellbinders last year and am now an affiliate.  From what I know, she decided to remain in Ukraine to fight.  She’s so brave and courageous.  Sending her and all Ukrainians strength and praying for their safety. 🙏🏼   Thank you for stopping by.

Trina, I am so sorry you have not been well, I hope at this reading you are better. Not feeling well doesn't seem to stop you from making the most amazing cards. This one is outstanding. I love the Ukranian flag colors inside the hand heart and the coloring of the "hugs" . I am praying for them too. Heartbreaking what they are going through!

Both your words and your card are beautiful, Trina. It's my favorite tribute to the Ukrainians who are suffering and dying because of one tyrant. Senseless and scary. Thank God for warriors like Yana and her brave countrymen and women. The way you designed your card with the blue and yellow bursting heart and the sediments blows my mind. Thank you for inspiring everyone at NBUS and I pray that you start to finally feel better soon. Love and hugs, Darnell
