Washi Tape Watercolor Birthday

Hello everyone.  Today I am sharing another birthday card I created for my crafty friend, Loll, whose birthday is today.  Happy birthday, Loll!  Hope you're having a fabulous day.  I had to use this uber adorable Critter Celebraton stamp set from Penny Black that she generously gifted to me at the retreat back in May.  And here's the card.

At the retreat, Darnell brought along washi tape she was less than thrilled with.  That was when Christine suggested covering it with white gesso.  Normally, stamping and watercoloring on washi tape would not work as the colours would just slide off.  Gesso primes the surface giving watercolours, or whatever medium, something to "grab" on to.  Christine has an informative post explaining different ways to use gesso HERE.

After the washi tape was primed with gesso, the image was stamped with black Archival ink.  Gesso  muted the design on the washi tape and gave a sepia look.  So I went with it and watercolored the images with brown Zig markers and a waterbrush.  Next, took a Kraft A2 size piece from my stash, die cut an Antique Frame window in the centre, then dry embossed it with a Sunburst embossing folder.  Heat embossed the sentiment with gold embossing powder on brown cardstock.  Assembled the card onto a white card base to finish

So if you have ugly wash tape or pattern paper, don't throw it away.  Gesso it!  Thank you for visiting.    Enjoy your day.
