Celebration of Life

Hello there.  My mom needed a card for a coworker whose wife has passed away.  He's not doing a funeral, but rather a celebration of life.  I was a little confused as to what would be appropriate, but Christine helped me figure it out... and a simple "thinking of you" says it all.

At the ESCR retreat in May, Christine taught us different ways to use gesso.  One of them was the gesso resist technique.  To do this technique, gesso was sponged onto the flower stamp then stamped onto mixed media paper.  Immediately wash the gesso off the stamp and set the panel aside to dry naturally.  Silhouette image stamps work best for this technique.

Once dried, Faded Jeans, Stormy Sky and Weathered Wood distress oxide inks (DOx) were blended on with mini blending tools.  Excess ink was wiped off with a paper towel to reveal the image.  The sentiment was stamped with Faded Jeans Dox on a strip of Bristol paper and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.  Added some mini clear drops to finish.

This may very well be the first time I've used a floral image for a masculine card, but somehow it seems fitting for the occasion, don't you think?  Anyway, that's it for me.  Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your day!

Yes the flower image is perfect Trina, as it's subtle and tonal with the card. Great technique and the sentiment fits perfectly for the celebration of life and so very appropriate x.

Sympathy cards for men is something I've thought about and you've done a perfect job on this one, Trina. The subtlety of the flowers in that gorgeous blue is lovely. I just wrote down the technique to try myself, probably using some ferns. Thanks for sharing your card with us at The Flower Challenge.

I think this fits perfectly, Trina! This was a perfect image to use for the gesso resist. Love the colors you chose for sponging. They keep it from being too feminine.

this is a stunning way to use this stamp! I think Linda has this...we may have to give this a try, she has been down in my area looking for a house, no time to play, she is looking all over for the perfect house, and then of course spending time with the triplets! Heart Hugs, colleen

Wow, I think you did a fantastic job of making a perfect card for the occasion, Trina! It's beautiful and there's something somber (in a good sense) about it. Love the Gesso's texture and resist effect, and you made a great choice for the ink color and the sentiment.

You have made a stunning card, Trina with its gorgeous subtle colour and the way the flowers 'fade' slightly into the background. It fits perfectly with the sentiment for a Celebrations of Life. I often make a 'Thinking of you' card as it sort of says it all! Thanks for sharing the technique of gesso resist stamping. Thanks so much for joining us at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge this week!
