At the ESCR retreat in May, Christine taught us different ways to use gesso. One of them was the gesso resist technique. To do this technique, gesso was sponged onto the flower stamp then stamped onto mixed media paper. Immediately wash the gesso off the stamp and set the panel aside to dry naturally. Silhouette image stamps work best for this technique.
Once dried, Faded Jeans, Stormy Sky and Weathered Wood distress oxide inks (DOx) were blended on with mini blending tools. Excess ink was wiped off with a paper towel to reveal the image. The sentiment was stamped with Faded Jeans Dox on a strip of Bristol paper and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Added some mini clear drops to finish.
This may very well be the first time I've used a floral image for a masculine card, but somehow it seems fitting for the occasion, don't you think? Anyway, that's it for me. Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy your day!

Sympathy cards for men is something I've thought about and you've done a perfect job on this one, Trina. The subtlety of the flowers in that gorgeous blue is lovely. I think this fits perfectly, Trina! This was a perfect image to use for the gesso resist. Love the colors you chose for sponging. They keep it from being too feminine.
