Otter Variety 2 Shaped Cards

Hello there.  I couldn’t resist playing with those adorable otters again from the Otter Variety 2 stamp set by Whimsy Stamps (WS).  This time, I decided to finally tackle a couple of shaped cards I’ve been wanting to try.  Up first is my first rocker card!… which is pretty basic.  If you want to see stepped up versions, check out the inspirations from the design team over at Just Us Girls (JUGS).

Started both cards by stamping the otter images with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on alcohol marker friendly cardstock, colouring them in with Copic Sketch markers, then die cutting them out with the matching outline dies.

The new-to-me (NBUS) WS Pierced and Stitched Circles die set was used for my circles.  The white circles were die cut from Bristol paper while the blue circles were die cut from light blue cardstock (retired).  The sentiment and foliage from newly released Magic Wheel Flowers stamp set were black heat embossed on the small blue circle.  Used a blender brush to add Mermaid Lagoon distress ink around the edge before assembling the card to a finished size of 4.25”x5”.  Here it is in action.

My next project is my first off-the-edge card design.  Basically, partial die cutting of the outline dies was done to allow the images to extend beyond the edge.

For the background, two gradient colours of aqua dye inks were ink blended on for a base layer.  The WS Sun Rays stencil was then placed on top and the lighter aqua ink colour was blended over the stencil for the sun ray design.  Splattered with a darker aqua dye ink before assembling the card to finish.

I adore both of these cards, Trina! I love how perfect the shading of blue on the rocker card and your coloring is fabulous too. As for your off-the-edge card, it's not something I have ever tried with colored images and you have certainly enticed me. Again your coloring is outstanding. Thanks for playing along at Just Us Girls.

Two adorable cards using the Otter stamp set, Trina! Love your rocker card ... aren't they fun??!! The off-the-edge card is fantastic. I LOVE the design and would love to give that a try. I doubt mine will work out as perfectly as your card, but you have inspired me to try (as always!). xx

The rocker card is so fun, and the ink blending on the light blue cardstock is beautiful! Thanks for the short video! The off-the-edge card is fresh and unique! The sun rays coming into the ocean are fabulous, and the partial die-cut otters look so happy together!
