Jane’s Doodles Challenge #13 - On the Beach

Hello again.  I’m back today with the 13th challenge for Jane’s Doodles and the theme this fortnight is On the Beach.

I had new unused (NBUS) Jane’s Doodles Holy Night stamp set out for another card and thought I would stretch this Christmas set and use one of the palm trees to create this clean and simple (CAS) beach scene card.

Started by stamping the palm tree off the edge with Fadeout ink from Ink on 3 on an A2 sized alcohol-friendly cardstock panel.  No-line coloured the palm tree and coloured in the sandy water background using Copic markers.

Stamped the sentiment from Jane’s Doodles All Occasions “in the sand” with Memento Rich Cocoa ink then with VersaMark to heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  For a bit of interest and dimension, die cut it with a stitch rectangle die from My Favorite Things and inlaid it back atop black cardstock.  Added clear shimmer to the water area to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #12 - Use a Die Cut

Hello there.  I’m back again today with the next Jane’s Doodles challenge to Use a Die Cut.

I was going to make a Father’s Day card using alphabet dies, but I really wanted to use the new Warm Hugs die from Reverse Confetti.  I thought it paired perfectly with the sweet image from Jane’s Doodles Bear Hugs.   Here’s my card.

I wanted to use my favourite colour blue, but because of the sentiment, I used warm pink.  As you can see, I couldn’t go all the way and added a bit of aqua, too. 😂  So I started by stamping the bear image on a stitch SU! Thick Whisper White panel with Gina K Amalgam Jet Black ink.  I wasn’t sure if I was going to use my Zig or Copic markers and this ink is compatible with both.  Masked the image next, then using blender brushes ink blended Pink Diamond and Dew Drops dye inks from Altenew at the top and bottom, respectively.  Darkened the edges with Black Soot distress ink that was left behind on the mini blending tool.

Removed the mask and stuck with my warm gray Copic markers to add shading.  Die cut the sentiment three times from scraps of white cardstock and stacked for dimension.  Didn’t plan ahead and would have die cut the top layer from white glitter cardstock for some sparkle.  So instead inked the stacked sentiment with VersaMark and heat embossed with clear glitter embossing powder.  Die cut the sentiment from dark grey cardstock and offset for a shadow effect.  Added some stars, dots and line details with a white gel pen then assembled on a white card base to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #11 - Birthday

Hello everyone.  It’s time for a new challenge at Jane’s Doodles and it’s an easy theme.  Who doesn’t need a Birthday card?   Ok, maybe certain religious groups who don’t celebrate, but we as paper crafters love to wish and give out birthday cards!

Here’s my CAS birthday card using a new unused Jane’s Doodles Cake set.

Keeping it really simple once again. Started by stamping the candle with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on an X-Press It cardstock panel from my stash.  Masked it then stamped the slice of cake.  Coloured them with Copic markers in bright rainbow colours!  So fun!

For the glow of the flame, blended Squeezed Lemonade distress ink over a Concentric Circles stencil from Create a Smile.  Curved the sentiment in my MISTI, inked with Versafine black ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  Added clear shimmer to the rainbow coloured areas for some sparkle to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #10 - Stencilling

Hello there.  It’s time for a new challenge at Jane’s Doodles and the theme is Stencilling.

I had planned on something more involved, but my back is out.  Lying flat with a pillow under my knees seems to be the only position that helps with the pain.   In fact, I fussy cut the image lying down! 😜  Anyway, here’s my card.

I chose to use the Jane’s Doodles Summer Icons because it’s cute and small; therefore, requires less sitting to colour. 😂   The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on X-Press It cardstock, coloured in with Copic markers then fussy cut out.  Then on a stitched Bristol panel from my stash, aqua dye ink was blended through a mini Candy Swirl stencil from Simon Says Stamp.  Flicked on some water and dabbed off with a paper towel to give it texture.

Next the sentiment from Jane’s Doodles All Occasions was white heat embossed on black cardstock and trimmed down to a strip.  For dimension, a couple of black stitched rectangles backed the panel.  A few mini circle clear drops (discontinued) finished off the card.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #9 - Animals

Hello everyone.  It’s time for a new challenge at Jane’s Doodles and the theme is Animals.

My sister recently sent a video of my 4-year old nephew dancing (it was super cute btw) and I had him in mind when I made this CAS card. 

Started by stamping the turtles from Jane’s Doodles Belated Birthday with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a scrap of X-Press It cardstock.  Masked the front-facing turtle, then stamped the boy from Jane’s Doodles Read All About It.  Coloured with Copic markers, then fussy cut them out.

Next, used a blender brush to add Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn distress inks on a Bristol panel for the background.  White heat embossed the sentiment from Jane’s Doodles All Occasions on a black strip.  Adhered éléments to the panel, then for some interest, die cut the panel with a decorative rectangle die (no longer available as company closed).  Attached to tan coloured paper, then mounted everything onto a white card base to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #8 - Add Embellishments

Hello everyone.  My blog is going to be busy today with not one, not two, but three posts! 😂  I’m starting things off with the next Jane’s Doodles challenge and it is to Add Embellishments on your projects.

While setting up my craft space after the restoration, I came across some old jewel rhinestones.  They remind me of diamonds and my mom loves diamonds, so those two thoughts inspired this back-handed compliment Mother’s Day card.  So fun! 😂

That particular sentiment in the Jane’s Doodles Mother’s Day set (currently being discontinued, but still available at a phenomenal price while supplies last) makes me laugh.  It was white heat embossed on a scrap of black cardstock and fussy cut out in the shape of a speech bubble.   I paired it with the cute girl image in a new unused Jane’s Doodles set I’ve had for a while called Read All About It.  She was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Neenah 80 lb. cardstock and coloured in with Copics.  Because I have long hair, I altered her to reflect this.  She was then fussy cut out.

To highlight and make the rhinestones “shine” in the background, I did selective ink blending with a blender brush and Picked Raspberry distress ink using a new Fractal Diamond stencil from Memory Box.  The Altenew Bold Alphabet letters were die cut from SU!’s Melon Mambo and black cardstock for the shadow.  Assembled the card onto a white card base to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #7 - Rainbow

Hello there.  It’s not an April Fool’s joke and I’m back with my second post today.  This time it’s for the new Jane’s Doodles challenge and it’s another favourite of mine — RAINBOW!

I went realty CAS with this bright and cheery birthday card.

Started by die cutting a Wonky Stitch Rectangle from X-Press It cardstock.  Used the acrylic block stamping technique to create the background.  Did this by scribbling onto an acrylic block with Copic markers in rainbow colours then spritzIng it with rubbing alcohol before stamping it onto the panel.

Because it’s rubbing alcohol, it doesn’t take long to dry.  Next, stamped the popsicle from Jane’s Doodles Cool set with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured it using the same markers as the background.  Black heat embossed the sentiment from Jane’s Doodes Cake with clear glitter embossing powder.  Doodled dots and cross stars with a white gel pen and added Crystal Glaze on the popsicle to finish.

Jane’s Doodles Challenge #6 - Embossing

Hello everyone!  I’m finally back in my home!  The restoration took almost two months... and apparently this is quick!   Anyway, I’m here today with the next Jane’s Doodles challenge.  The theme is Embossing.

I wanted to give this cool idea by Yana Smakula a try.  She used a single background stamp which was a lot easier than what I did.  About a quarter way through, I actually gave up on this card, but since returning home, I decided to follow through till the end to see what happens.  Well luckily, it turned out okay.

I didn’t have light pink cardstock with me, so on a piece of light blue cardstock, the different flowers from Jane’s Doodles Magnolia were stamped with VersaMark ink and heat embossed with Liquid Platinum embossing powder.  Masking was used.

The magnolias were coloured with blue Copic markers, then the background was coloured in black.  Splatters were added by mixing white gouache paint with water.  The sentiment from Jane’s Doodles Birthday Wishes was heat embossed with the same Liquid Platinum embossing powder on a scrap of Bristol paper.  Adhered the panel to a split black/white card base to finish.
