Less is More #385 - OLC Holiday

Hello there!  This year has flown by and we are now on the final challenge for 2018 at Less is More (LIM).  We are taking a break in December next month and challenges will resume in January 2019!  It is not only the final challenge this year, but the final challenge for our teamie and leader, Sarah, who has decided to step down.   She will be missed. Now onto the dreaded one layer card challenge, but at least the theme is easy enough... Holiday!  We have the September Lucky Dip winner, Katrina Bufton of Katrina’s Crafting Blog, joining us as our guest and she has made an adorable card.  Once again, our sponsor this month is Happy Little Stampers (HLS).  Just a little fyi... HLS is closing down and the entire store is on sale.

CHRISTMAS

'Tis the season so it had to be a one layer Christmas card.  Started by making a top folding card base from mixed media paper.  Stamped with black Archival ink the hoofs and scarf, masked them then stamped the moose reindeer from the same set.  Masked the reindeer then die cut a reverse circle mask.  Ink blended Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers distress inks (di) within the circle to create the background.

Removed masks and coloured in with Zig markers and a waterclor brush.  I couldn't resist incorporating rainbow colours.  The sentiment also from the same set was black heat embossed.  For some interest, added the diagonal stripes on the left side by sponging Black Soot di through a diagonal stripe stencil (retired).  Added Nuvo Crystal Glaze on the lights and clear shimmer to the scarf to finish.

That does it for me.  For more inspirations from my team, head over to the LIM blog HERE.  Hope you can join us.  Looking forward to seeing what you link up.  Thank you once again for spending time with me.  Have a happy and safe holiday season and we'll see you next year for the next LIM challenge.

Less is More #384 - Metallics

Happy Saturday!  it's a new challenge at Less is More (LIM) and this fortnight the colour challenge is Metallics.  Our wonderful September winner, Angie Cimbalo from Cimba Creative Fun, is our guest this challenge.  Happy Little Stampers returns as our generous sponsor.

METALLLIC SILVER

I used the Faux Stained Glass technique to create the rainbow tree.  This tree die cuts out the negative instead of the positive, which I found made it easier.  Started by ink blending Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry, Mermaid Lagoon and Twisted Citron distress inks (di) on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock for the rainbow.

Next, trimmed three 4"x3" panels from metallic silver foil paper.  Added Stick It adhesive to the back of each, then die cut each with the tree die.  Stacked two of them over the rainbow coloured piece, then added Crystal Glaze to each opening.  Once dry, added the third foil die cut piece covering up any mess, then trimmed the entire piece with my paper trimmer into the triangle tree shape.  Just a precaution, four layers is very thick to trim and your trimmer may break... don't ask me how I know. 😆   I wanted the rainbow tree to really pop, so mounted it to an A2 size black panel after heat embossing the sentiment with silver embossing powder.

Now over to you.  If you need more inspiration, check out the beautiful cards our guest Angie and my team have created HERE.  Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful week.

Less is More #383 - Dimension

Hello there!  It's a new challenge at Less is More (LIM).  This fortnight the challenge is to add Dimension to your cards and yet still keep it clean and simple (CAS).  Our August winner Claire Garland of String Bows, is our talented guest.  Uniko is our generous sponsor this month.

SET BACK STAMING

I've been wanting to try this Set Back Stamping technique, and thought this challenge was a good time to do just that.  Using my MISTI,  stamped the houses with black Copic friendly ink on an A2 size piece of X-press It cardstock.  Coloured in the houses with Copics in rainbow colours.

Stamped the houses again onto a smaller piece of Bristol paper.  Die cut the houses out with the matching die from this piece and a piece of white fun foam.  Next, ink blended Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac and Blueprint Sketch distress inks (di's) for the sky.  Stamped the sentiment in black.  Mounted the Bristol piece onto the fun foam piece and added snow with a white gel pen to finish.

There are so many ways to add dimension and keep your cards CAS.  Can't wait to see your take on this challenge.  Our guest and my teammies have created some fabulous cards to inspire you and you can view them HERE.  Thank you for visiting.

Less is More #382 - Tags

Hello there!  I'm back with a new challenge for Less is More (LIM).  Challenge #382 is Tags and it can be standalone or added to a card.  Uniko is back as our generous sponsor this month. Be sure to participate in both challenges this month to qualify to win.

CHRISTMAS TAG

I started by diecutting a tag from X-press It cardstock.  Stamped the bear with Copic friendly black ink and coloured with Copics.  Masked him, then sponged turquoise dye ink for the background.    Spritz with a shimmer spray for some sparkle (was unable to capture it in the photo).

Next heat embossed the sentiment (retired) using Versafine black ink and clear embossing powder.   To make the tag sturdier, another tag was die cut from a scrap of thick white cardstock and stacked.  Added a black ribbon (retired) to complete the tag.

Making the tag was the easy part.  I struggled with how to add it to the card.  I ended up dry embossing a Whisper White panel with nesting rectangle dies.  Popped the panel onto a white card base with some black fun foam for dimension to finish.

Now over to you.  You have two weeks to join us.  For more inspiration, head over the LIM blog HERE.  Can't wait to see your fabulous tag creations.  Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Less is More #380 - OLC Florals

Hello there!  It's a new challenge this fortnight at Less is More (LIM) and we are back to that dreaded one layer card (OLC).  The theme this time is Florals.  We have our July winner, Julie Beech of Crafted by Jules, joining us as our wonderful guest designer.  And new sponsor CAS-ual Fridays is generously offering a 20% discount code to their store valid till the end of the month!  Just enter 'lessismore' at checkout.

FLORAL PUMPKIN

So I bought this floral pumpkin stamp because I wanted a pumpkin image without it being only a pumpkin.  Does that make sense? 😂  I also see it's retiring now, so I thought I better break out this NBUS set.  Since this is a OLC, there is very little to explain here.  Stamped the image with black Memento ink on a white Copic friendly card base and coloured with Copics in Halloween colours to keep with the fall season. 😉

The sentiment from the same set was heat embossed with black Versafine ink and clear glitter embossing powder.  Outlined the sentiment with a white gel pen where it overlaps the image to make it stand out better.  Added clear shimmer to the flowers to finish!

Are you ready to join us?  Our guest Julie and my teammies have made some beautiful cards to inspire you and you can check them out HERE.  Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful week.

Less is More #379 - Black White Plus One Other Colour

Happy September 1st everyone!  It's not just a new month but a new challenge at Less is More (LIM).  We have a colour challenge this fortnight and the possibilities are endless.  Show us your Black, White plus One Other Colour card.  CAS-ual Fridays is our wonderful brand new sponsor this month.  Play along in all the September challenges to be in the running for the $25 gift card prize to their store.  Oh and did I mention that they are also generously offering discount code ‘lessismore’ to save 20%?

BLACK WHITE & GOLD

I was going through my bits bag when I saw these black die cut balloons that I had planned to use for a New Year's card but ended up making something else.  I die cut them from Whisper White cardstock and then ink blended Black Soot distress ink with a mini blending tool. For some sheen, they were covered with Perfect Pearls.  The strings were die cut from black cardstock.

A piece of gold foil cardstock was sitting on my desk, and that was how I decided my third colour. 😁  The sentiment was white heat embossed on a black strip.  All pieces were added to an A2 size Whisper White panel, then mounted it to a white card base to finish.

Ready to join in the fun?  For some more beautiful inspirations from my teammies, head over to the LIM blog HERE.  Thank you for stopping by.  Enjoy your day.
